Folks,
Anybody have advice on useful services/apps for tracking hits on blogs? Prefered blog software and advertising services?
What about the time/ROI on time/ and the potential of swirling into "broadcast mode, doomed by success?
Any thoughts, experiences would be appreciated.

Many ISP's have some kind of hit tracking -- if you are using a blog service like blogspot or typepad then I like statcounter.com -- free for a small historical db (paid if you want to keep more history) -- they have analysis features that the usual counters do not have (drill down, for one is much better than awstats or webalyzer).
Also, depend on whether you want the stats to be public or not -- SiteMeter is one of the standards in public stats (not sure if they do private).

i've used webalizer for a while now, easy to install, useful info, scans through apache2 webserver logs.
shows all the basics of things you'd want to know, graphs, stats etc.
